I decided to exercise tonight. Weight Watchers is fabulous, but in all honesty, I wanted to sort of undo the half loaf of Mom's freshly baked banana bread I had stuffed in my gullet upon picking up the kids at her house this afternoon. I really hadn't attempted exercise since last July (seriously, a year??) when I got pregnant with my baby girl. So I don't know why, but this was not an ordinary run. I should really say 'run'. I don't want to mince words here. I ran alright, but I just got too itchy. Which reminds me, I need to Google exercise itch. I digress. So anyway, not ordinary. We moved a few weeks ago to a new house in our same town. It's bigger and we love it. I started down the road by my house, jogging just to see what might happen. Not too bad! I turned down a gravel road toward a flower farm. Still, going pretty well. So then the itching started and it became a walk. Whatever.
As the sun went down, I started getting this feeling in my core that something was wrong. I get that sometimes. Most of us probably do, right? I walked down the road, past farm after farm, and wondered what was planted in those green rows of freshly sprouted somethings... and I wondered what that now-abandoned house on the left looked like 30 years ago. I smelled something like Gardenia, which I was pretty sure wasn't possible in the local climate. A car drove past me, and after it had passed and I had silently thanked it for not hitting me, I could smell the marijuana smoke trailing behind it. All that much more relieved I wasn't hit. And I remembered my college days, driving around farm land, probably also leaving the scent of marijuana behind as we went aimlessly down the road.
My point? I was consumed. By what, I'm not sure... but I had certainly checked out. I hate this. When I got home, I flopped down on the couch and tried to pry Travis' eyes from the TV as he watched his hack 'em up ninja movie. No luck. I should know this by now, the first time. I asked him to put the TV on pause. Irritated, he glanced over, waiting to hear what could, in his mind, not have possibly been more important than the ninja movie. That's how he rolls, folks. I'm learning. I tried to explain my run-walk and how I was so consumed and disoriented and was met with a dull stare. I wasn't surprised. It was ok, I'd rather have talked to my mom anyway. The only downside was that she wasn't going to understand when I compared it to The Flight of The Navigator as Travis would have. Satisfied with my pep talk with mom, I went downstairs to do two things. One, to put in my Weight Watchers activity points. Redemption, I tell you. Two, to eat some fruit. So why did I hang a right at the pantry and eat a handful.... ok, really it was like three handfuls... of mini marshmallows? Why? My confusing walk was all for not, just like that.
I have been meaning to blog for a long time, so I hope this works out. I promise here and now though to never attempt again without coffee in my system. I see this tanking quickly otherwise...
